Get away with us this Advent Season and retreat into the beautiful wilderness counrty of Santa Barbara, CA.
The retreat will be held at the SVdP Circle V Ranch near the Santa Inez Mountains, which is where the Society sends dozens of disadvantaged kids each year to have a summer camp experience. Activities will include a nature hike, time for spiritual reflection, planning events for the next school term, and gathering around the camp fire to sing songs and share stories.
The retreat is FREE to all those who attend and lodging accomodations will be provided. The only expense retreatants will be expected to provide is food.

We will be leaving Cal State LA, Parking Lot 7 by 9am Wednesday morning and be back at Cal State LA by 12pm Friday afternoon.

The Society's CMC provides housing year round to dozens of men, women, and children while they locate more permanent living situations. This dinner is meant to be an opportunity to serve Christ through the person of the less fortunate and gives our members a greater awareness of poverty within our own area.
Activities include: Decorating, Cooking, Cleaning, and Serving

Midterms are tuff and time consuming so take some time to gain a greater perspective with us and help the poor of Downtown LA, Skid Row.
This event involves preparing bag lunches for the poor along side the UCLA SVdP conference at their UCLA Catholic Center and from there proceeding to Sixth and Gladys Park to hand the meals out. Total time with travel, cooking, packaging, and distributing takes about 3 hours. However, if you would like to stick around and maybe play some chess with us at the park or have some lunch that would be cool.
We will meet in parking lot 7 at 7:15am and take off by 7:30am to UCLA

STM Youth Mass + Confirmation Classes
Youth Mass at Saint Thomas More Church in Alhambra
Every Saturday evening at 5pm, beginning October 8th.
Beginning October 8th we will be assisting at Saint Thomas More Church in Alhambra for Confirmaion instruction. Mass will be followed by some light refreshments and and a short gathering, then for those who are seeking the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Catholic Church, or those looking to learn more about the Catholic faith, there will be having formal instruction on how to prepare for the "laying on of hands."

Soup Kitchen W/ Our Lady of Talpa
On Saturday, July 30th, from 4:00pm to 7:30pm, SVdP CSULA and Our Lady of Talpa Young Adult Conference will be serving dinner to the poor at the SVdP Cardinal Manning Center. Those who volunteer will be invited to assist with food preparation, decorating the facility, and interacting the poor. Volunteers are welcome and should contact SVdP CSULA at svdp.csula@gmail.com.

Thrift Store Service Event
SVdP CSULA will be helping out at one of the Society's thrift stores on May 28th. This event will involve helping organize and clean up for the many customers that come to shop there. The society's stores help dispriveleged families and local shoppers find affordable clothing and household items, as well as give away many free items to those who have prescribed vouchers. Please send an email to svdp.csula@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering.

Work Retreat

True Meaning of Lent Discussion
This coming Tuesday, April 19th at 3:15pm SVdP CSULA will be hosting a discussion with guest, Fr. Kevin Collins C.M. on the True Meaning of Lent. The discussion will cover such things as the significance of 40 days of fasting and abstinence, the purpose of Ash Wednesday, and how these things help us to prepare for our commemoration of the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus on Easter. Please join our discussion and bring a friend.
New Meeting Location
Our new meeting location for the Spring Quater of 2011 will be in the Engineering and Technology building, room B-108.
