that extra touch of fervor.

Daily Vincentian Inspiration

Do you not find that in casting the good work one does,

like a humble penny, into the common treasury, one enjoys

seeing it last among a thousand good works deposited at the same time,

and all mingled with one another  in one single offering to Him from whom all good proceeds?

From Frederic's Letter to François Lallier, October 5, 1837

Lord, may this family of servants be always united

and continue to grow and persevere, for your greater Glory.

Daily Vincentian Inspiration

"Do not burden yourself with rules and practices; strengthen yourself to fulfill well those you have,

especially as regards your daily actions and employments;

in short, let your greatest concern be to do well what you do."

especialmente lo que es pertinente a tus acciones diarias y empleo;

Lord, sometimes my days are so hectic. I need your guidance in my decision making

so that what I do is really necessary for your glory and not my own.

Daily Vincentian Inspiration

"As only a great necessity would make us decide to give remedies to a sick person in a violent attack of fever,

so we should not generally reprove anyone at the very time they commit a fault."

Father, when I have been hurt, my first reaction is to retaliate.

Teach me to forgive, even as you have forgiven me.

Enséñame a perdonar, aun como tú me has perdonado a mí.

Daily Vincentian Inspiration

"I must jog along the allotted path through all its windings and weariness
until it brings me home where all tears shall be wiped away,
and sorrow and sighing be heard no more. In the meanwhile, Courage!"
- St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

- Santa Isabel Ana Seton

My way to you, Lord, has often been hampered by attachment to the many "idols" in my life
which serve to distract me from where you want me to go.
Give me the courage to identify these "idols" and root them out of my life.

Grand Marian Procession

Grand Marian Procession!
Saturday, September 8, 2012
Downtown Los Angeles

Dear Vincentians,

September 8 marks the Feast Day of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.   September also marks the anniversary of the founding of the city named in her honor, namely, El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de Los Ángeles de Porciúncula – modern day Los Angeles.

To celebrate both Our Lady's feast day and the city, County, and Archdiocese founded in her name, you and your fellow Vincentians are invited to the 2nd Annual Grand Marian Procession, Mass, and Reception on Saturday, September 8, 2012.

Please be sure to:

Wear a white blouse or shirt with black skirt or pants
Wear your SVdP armband (you may order one from us for $5 each)
Also, be sure to bring your Conference's St. Vincent de Paul banner to carry during the procession.

The day's festivities include:

2:00 to 2:30 pm - Parking
Park at either the Cathedral (all-day parking is $5) and walk over to La Placita Church, or park near La Placita Church/Olvera Street
3:00 pm - Grand Marian Procession
Starting at Queen of Angels Parish (La Placita Church), located at 535 N. Main St., Los Angeles  9001, leading through the LA Civic Center and ending at The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.
4:40 pm - Rosary
in the Cathedral Plaza
5:00 pm - Grand Entry
into the Cathedral Sanctuary
5:30 pm - Votive Mass
in honor of Our Lady
6:45 pm - Reception
in the Cathedral Plaza

Our participation in this procession is fitting, as we are in fact a Marian society, with Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception as our patroness.  Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, our founder, had a deep devotion to Mother Mary, which he imparted to the Society.  And, as providence would have it, Blessed Frédéric was called to his heavenly reward on September 8, 1853 - the feast of birth of Our Blessed Mother (and the day before his feast day).

Should you have any questions, please give me a call at 323/226-1757, or e-mail me at sanman@svdpla.org.  I look forward to seeing you on September 8 and walking with you!

Yours in St. Vincent de Paul and Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal,

Manuel A. Sánchez
